Default Kick to electric

Hey guys,

I have a 77 ironhead project I'm working on. She's kick start only, which I think is pretty cool, but ultimately a pain in the ass. Given enough time and patience, I can get her kciked and started, but sometimes I just don't have the time to worry about that, and I hate loosing gasloine what with prices so high.

I know Custom Chrome makes a kit, but you have to buy the oil tank seperately. A guy in NJ gave me a quote of $813, but to be honest, I don't have that kind of cash.

I'm looking for alternatives, such as used parts, to convert it to either kick and electric, or just electric, really whichever is cheaper.

Thanks,
-Mike

Time to hit the swap meets, if the cash is a problem. If you are having trouble starting the bike every now & then, swap the points out for an electronic ignition, tune the thing up, including timing, plugs, carb, and the valves (pushrods/lifters). My CH was a 2 prime, 1 kick starter.

Points to electronic ignition? I didn't know that was an option. Could you give me a bit more information on this setup?

I haven't seen alot of swap around the Boston area. Maybe I'll have more luck this summer when I'm back in virginia.

Years ago, say back in the '70s - early '80s, Boston area was the Sportster capital of the east.

Check out a J&P catalog: http://www.jpcycles.com
Do a search for electronic ignitions. Ask their tech folks for a recommendation.

Might also check out this place: http://www.sportster.org/home.html
See what some of the guys on there say.

I wish it was the same today. Now it's full of BMW's and civics. Not that these are bad, just not my style. It is kind of nice to be unique with my ironhead (hell even a harley) though

Thanks for your help.
