Default Primary leaking through shifter shaft

My primary is now leaking through the shifter shaft (I have mid controls) for the third time in 27k miles on my '07 FXD.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem, or is there anyone with high mileage on their mid-controls dyna that has no issues with leaking through the hole?

I don't want to switch to forward controls, but I'm concerned that this is a design flaw.... I suppose there could be a problem with the inner primary, has anyone else had a problem with theirs?

thanks!

yeah, the seal slips and gets gradually eaten by the shaft movement. at least that's what happened the first time. the second time the dealer repaired it, and it's only been a week and I have a run down the casing already....

The problem is the tower gasket. It is the gasket where the inner and outter primary meet. Look at it this way....the hole that the shifter shaft goes into is not a hole at all, it's a tunnel that runs all the way to the inner primary, where they meet is the gasket, nothing more than a 1/2 inch washer type. Mine leaked also and the dealer took care of it same day. Annoying but simple fix.

Yes, that is what is happening, but it's happening for the third time now, so I'm wondering if I'm an exception, or it's happened to other people.

If you have had it resealed 3 times I would have them check the inner & outer case and shifter shaft itself and see if the hole diameter is correct and not out of round. You could have a case that is out of tolerance or if there is any defect in thefinishing of the hole in the case or shifter shaft that would abrade the seal and cause it to leak. Have them check the shifter shaft and make sure it is not bent or out of round. (you may even want to replace it)If there is a bushing on the shifter shaft replace that as well. I am thinking your shifter shaft might be slightly bent. Also, if the shaft is scored from the first seal failure it needs to be replaced.

Or you may just have a retard not installing the seal correctly.
