As several of you are aware, I recently ordered some replacement cables, hoses, plug wires, etc. of the stainless braided variety for my ’99 Night Train (as is it torn down being repainted). I ordered the wires from the Cycle Shack in Oolitic, Indiana and they were
Magnum Shielding brand (which I believe to be one the better, if not the best available) based on my bike’s year, model, carb, etc. Apparently my S&S carb is somehow different and I determined by trial fitting that the cable travel was not correct on my throttle and idle cables. I contacted the Cycle Shack and to my surprise they were less than helpful and suggested I contact the manufacturer directly to determine if it was some type of manufacturing defect. [:@]
I called
Magnum Shielding and found the staff to be very knowledgeable and helpful. Basically I was told that if I had only trial fitted the cables (i.e. did not actually use them) that I should be able to exchange them for some with the correct travel for my bike. Well… the messages (plural) back from the Cycle Shack was the only way I could exchange them is if there was a manufacturing defect and I would receive back the same part number, no changes. [:@]
After briefly discussing this issue with
Magnum Shielding I was given a RMA number and this morning I received a very pleasant phone call saying that the cables were received in acceptable condition and the ones I want would be produced and shipped out next Tuesday. Excellent customer service!!!
They can make just about any custom cable or hose you need and you can buy their products through various dealers (Custom Chrome, Drag Specialties, etc.)
Many thanks to Wendy and Sue from Magnum Shielding!!!
