Stock you can get 40mpg under light throttle cruising, so I'm told. Under heavy throttle, I'm getting about32 MPG. The V-Rods don't run as hot as the twincams. You'll find the operating temp below 200deg.F.

I get 32 mpg city. The 08's due to a closed system, and automatic leaning out of the rear cylinder at idle are a lot hotter.

That can't be right.

How are you calculating your MPG?

The best way to calculate MPG is to fill up, reset your trip odometer, and then go for a ride. Come back to the same pump, and fill up again. Take the miles on your trip odometer and divide by the gallons on the pump. I know this is a rather simple post, but please don't take it in the wrong way. I have seen guys say they get poor mileage, and then tell me they are going off the fuel guage, which is historically proven to be inaccurate, at best.

Thanks for the input.... I figure it can't be right but I have no explanation. I filled the bike up and started the trip odo. at zero.
Ran it till it was running on fumes. Past the light being on, to where the bike had the light on and said LOW. it may have had 4 or 5 miles left in it.

I filled the bike all the way up and it only said 4.28 gallons. I have heard from many people this bike has a 5 gallon tank.
The trip odo. only read 102.6 miles on the tank. I was actually giving it the benefit of the doubt in writing 23 mpg on the post.

Thats of course on premium and i've only been riding bikes for a couple month and do not have the experiece to ride it hard so it wasn't like i was going all out wrapping it out or anything.

I don't think these bikes have reserves either. (the only bike i have ever heard of that didn't have one)
any input would be helpful. thanks alot, Tan

Must be something wrong with my bike. I consistently get better than 38mpg. Usually around 40 in town and better on the highways.

Tan, either your tank is leaking(or some other part of your fuel system)or you are in 5th gear when you should be in 1st.

No bike with fuel injection has a reserve that I know of.

To be getting the mileage you are there must be something wrong. IS your bike stock or have you done any performance mods? At what RPM are you riding at? I know on my bike if I lug it under 3k rpm my gas mileage drops. I get better gas mileage by keeping the rpm's in the power band which is over 4k.

I haven't noticed anything leaking from the bike fuel wise, or smelled anything for that matter.
I can't understand why it was running on fumes and only took 4.2 gal. maybe the station was sticking the screw to people???

The bike does rarely see about 5k rpm though, maybe once or twice a ride. I suppose that may be the problem. I always just assumed higher RPM, more gas used

I get to about 160 miles and fill, ussually takes about 4.6 gallons at that point... so almost 35mpg... I'm sure I could do better on the highway..
