Who runs baffles on the Evo. I got a 97, V&H straight shots, the usual go fast goodies, cam, carb, ignition, air, pushrods, rockers. ect. I want to know if anyone is runnin a 4-6" baffle. I love the straight sound, but I'm thinkin more botton end would be great, I can quiet it a bit, gain some back pressure, and help the low end range.
Let me know, if anyone expirimented with or without, If it's niticibly worth it, I will get em. I most likely will anyway, just lookin for opinions..

I have drag pipes on my 92 FXRS, and I installed the 4" baffles, the bike sounded like an air compressor, with a bad leak. they really quieted the bike down, way too much.
I took it for a short ride, and It felt like the exhaust was plugged...and it bogged down real bad.
I threw them right in the trash!
Maybe the long ones would be better?, but for me, I prefer the straight pipes.
I have a '99 Evo with the same pipes. I have cut the baffles down. They don't sound as deep as no baffle, but they do have a heavier rumble than a full baffle.

I find that people who love drag pipes, also like gettin thier picture taken. Attention whores..I'm lookin for a happy medium. Tuning is far more important to me than an obnoxiously loud exhaust. It's like putting a fart can on a honda civic.
I think with all the money I have in engine Mods, I'm not benifiting fully because of a no restriction exhaust. I'll cut some baffles down and let everyone know, noise level differance vs low end torque gains. From what I find, you won't beata stock exhaust HD off the line vs a open piped and jetted/mapped HD. We'll just have to see.

Doubtful you'll ever get performance and fuel mileage with straights, but just make you own baffles... by whatever design you can come up with. You can spend less making LOTS of different combinations for what "store bought" baffles will cost. Remember, it's not reducing the overall noise that makes the low end better, it's the pressure change resulting from "acoustic tuning" than makes it all work. I added baffles to my open muffles bodies and got a much better sound (just as loud), morepower through the entire RPM rangeand improvedmy mileage by 10 mpg.
Without getting all technical - noise itself causes a restriction in a straight pipe. They're for WFO only, power-wise. The explosion of noise coming through the pipe actually causes a pressure, or more correctly, a blockagewhen it's not escaped before the next one comes because it's echoing back up toward the cylinder. Yea, loud, but not good for power or economy.
Start with a short piece of exhaust pipe that will "almost" slip into the pipe. Cutit with a hacksaw or thin grinder wheel so as to let it compress and slip into your pipe.Weld a 3/8 washer on one end, then add another on the opposite end.Tap it in say half way to the first bend and go for a test ride, you'll be totally amazed......... then just experiment from there
