Default Clutch pull in '08 Sportsters

I ride an '08 XL1200C that I bought last summer. It has about 8K miles on it. The clutch pull effort is what I would describe as firm, not unlike my old '72Yamaha. There is also a little squeaking from the clutch lever housing when I pull. I don't think it was always that way, but I can't really remember. It only bothers me in a lot of stop-n-go traffic.

But I just rode a neighbor's brand new '08 XL883 which had a clutch that I could have operated with my pinkie finger. Light as a feather!

My question: shouldn't my clutch pull effort be the same as on that 883 since they're both '08s? Or is there some difference between the smaller Sportster and the 1200? I'm more concerned that there is something wrong with my clutch lever, lever housing, cable, something down in the clutch itself....whatever. I'm not interested in installing a easy-pull kit. Just wondering why there is a huge difference between my '08 and another.

Any thoughts? thanks

faber when I had my 08 883 mine was pretty easy. Sounds like you need a good clutch lube. Those cables on the sporty's get dry easy.

Thanks, JPowell!

Yeah...duh.....that completely escaped my mind (I have to lube the cables on my '72 Yamaha XS650 all the time--should've thought of it myself). I was thinking something weirder and stranger must have happened.

I learned this in school and seem to forget it when I need it most.

Cheers
