Default voltage regulator questions

&lt\\;P&gt\\;1.how much voltage should i be getting?-directly from regulator its 12.04 at idle and revved.&amp\\;nbsp\\;&amp\\;nbsp\\; 2.exactly what happens when a regulator goes out?do they generally work or dont work or do they just get &quot\\;weak&quot\\;?&lt\\;/P&gt\\;
&lt\\;P&gt\\;&lt\\;BR&gt\\;i already cleaned ground contact for reg.few weeks ago it was getting higher around 12.5 i beleive.i have no amp meter on bike so i dunno what is going on consistently.i am most likely going to take the generator/reg in to a known reputable starter/alt builder place.before i do that i was just wondering about throwing some money at a new regulator($50) thanks&lt\\;/P&gt\\;

Default RE: voltage regulator questions

Your battery should read approx 12.7 volts if the charging system is operating right and keeping up and your battery is in good condition.With the bike running and the headlight on 13.8-14.8 at a fast idle is ideal..Give or take a drip
