I'm planning to cover about 250 to 300 miles per day on an 8 day trip around Florida. I'm wanting to hug the coast as much as possible and staying in the Apalachicola, St. Petersburg, Key Largo, Key West, Vero Beach, and the St. Augustine areas. Any info on these areas or somewhere close by, if a better location, would be appreciated. Also should I run I 75 or US-41 on my way to Key Largo and US 1 or A1A up the East coast.

Thanks in advance for the help, Ray
75 is only for making up time or for short a blast, 41 is a good riding road. As far as US1 and A1A, you will jump back and forth, some of it is combined. A1A will be right on the coast when accessable. I live in Jax, St Augustine is pretty laid back compared to St Pete. Out of St. Augustine take 16W towards Green Cove Springs. When you come to Wards Creek (13/16) take a left at the T intersection and cruise down 13 back to St Augistine or take 207 into Palatka. Go \\;North a few miles \\;on 17 and stop in at Chyanne (sp) \\;Biker Bar and have a cold one.

I grew up in Sarasota County just about right on the Tamiami Trail. I-75 is okay for missing the big clumps of Tampa down to Sarasota, but 41 is the original 1928 route to Miami. If you take U.S.41 through the Everglades, you'll probably enjoy it more. I used to work for the Florida Park Service. Lots of nice parks along the Southwest coast.
As a resident of the panhandle of Florida (the best part of the state IMHO), I concur with the Apalachicola portion of the trip, you'll enjoy that area. \\; Running over to St. George Island or Cape San Blas are nice rides from there too.
Gibson Inn is a nice and historic place to stay, eating choices are many and all walking \\; distance from the hotel.
stay home, don't come to Florida!!!...

seriously, stay off the highways as much as possible...east coast A1A, west coast is a bit tougher since nothing actually "hugs" the coast...go over the Skyway bridge in St. Pete, check out by Titusville (i forget the name, rte 3 maybe) but there's some road by a nature preserve \\;that's a nice ride north up towards Daytona...chaech out some "bike nights" bring a map and just get lost in the Sunshine State!!!! \\;
