Default windmills

Just wondering, anyone use a windmill for electrical power? Thinking about getting one and wondering if they are worth the $5200 northern tool is asking for there biggest model. I have a small house about 1800 sq. ft. it should damn near take care of the whole place at least in summer.

The power comapnies HAVE to buy power from you if you can generate more than you need. They fit another meter to the house to measure any surplus power you make that&nbsp\\;goes out to the system.

First, you'd need a constant wind speed of 20 mph to optimize the machine. Even if you have that, you'd need at least 4 of those to come close to providing enough power for your house. You'd also need 4 towers to mount them on. You'd be responsible for maintenance. It would cost you about $40k to set that up not counting a qualified electrician's time if you can't do it all yourself.

The towers, concrete bases and wiring would cost more than the generators.

You need about 1600 kwh to run the house. If it were easy and if it were profitable, everyone would be doing it. Even the huge wind generator farms don't pay except for the substantial tax incentives that go with them.

Sorry to be a dkhead.

PS Just a little trivia, windmills grind grain, wind pumps and wind generators do their thing.

You haven't lived until you've stretched out in a concrete cattle trough that has ice cold limestone water running into it from a windmill with nothing on but your cowboy boots, hat and bandana with a bottle of Jack Daniels in one hand and a good cigar in the other.

Well then I'll just have to visit Oklahoma again. I wouldn't want to miss that.&nbsp\\;

You can sell back excess power however the utility will require you to have a safety system and insurance based on their requirements. This will cost you more than any returns that you may be hopping for.

Not able to post anything in depth but I would suggest that you look into a DC unit with a convertor
