Default whining from trans..

I have a friend with a 2003 Sporty 883...totally stock!
She has 1900 miles (doesn't have much time to ride)..
I helped her change her oil in the trans, switch from standard to Synthetic (HD).&nbsp\\; Put enough to the oil was up to the bottom of the plate in the primary.&nbsp\\; The trans now has this annoying whining sound coming from it.&nbsp\\; It gets higher pitched as the engine revs.&nbsp\\; She says it is shifting fine in all gears.

Is this because the Syn is thinner, is this normal?&nbsp\\; Any ideas??&nbsp\\; thanks..

Try a different oil....I too had whine in my trans (07 Deluxe), I thought it was "normal" as it's my first bike...after reading countless posts on this site and others and learning about the different oils out there....&nbsp\\; I finally drained the Syn 3 and used Spectro 75W-140&nbsp\\;6 speed oil....&nbsp\\; noise immediately went away.... they also make a version for the 5 speed...&nbsp\\; others have said that Redline Shockproof heavy is a great oil too for the trans....&nbsp\\; So, I would first try a heavier oil, then if the whine doesn't diminish, you could have some other issue going on...

For s Sportster a 75w140 or redline shockproof heavy is too thick. Do not use it. Use a 75w90 synthetic like Mobil1 or Redline MT90 or Redline 75w90 or HD formula+. My 2005 Sporty took 32 oz. The HD syn3 should be fine just be sure you have enough oil in there just over the bottom of the clutch hub.
