Default What to do after Royal Gorge?

The wife and I are going to be going to the Royal Gorge for a couple of days&nbsp\\;in a couple of weeks.&nbsp\\; Any sugestions on what to do in Colorado afterwards?&nbsp\\; Was thinking of going to Gunnison area after Canon City/Royal Gorge&nbsp\\;and then just seeing what happens.&nbsp\\;

I don't know how much time you have, but a few roads I would recommend:
&nbsp\\;
Hwy 50 west out of Canon City is a nice ride, that takes you all the way into Gunnison.
A few suggestions&nbsp\\;out of&nbsp\\;Gunnison
&nbsp\\;
1) Go into town of Crested Butte (Hwy 135 north out of Gunnison).&nbsp\\; The road isn't great, but the town is interesting
2) Just east of Gunnison is Hwy 149 that goes south to Lake City, then Creede (Robert Ford, killer of Jesse James was gunned down in Creede), then South Fork.&nbsp\\; It is one of my all-time favorite Colorado roads.
3) Hwy 92 goes north out of Gunnison through the Black Canyon.&nbsp\\; Beautiful, curvy road (even better on a sport-bike, but that's a different trip).
&nbsp\\;
A bit further west is a hidden gem Hwy 141 that intersects with 50 between Delta and Grand Junction and goes through Gateway and on to Naturita.&nbsp\\; This area more resembles Utah than Colorado and is pretty isolated country.&nbsp\\; The road winds back and forth along bluffs and rivers and is amazing.&nbsp\\; Just make sure you fill up with gas before heading out in that direction as there are few towns and gas stations along the way.

Man...what I remember about Gunnison... well lets just say, the wife wasn't with me on that trip. Turns out that it's a college town, which I didn't know till I stepped into a bar after dinner...

First of all coming from Iowa , you are just getting into the most beautiful part of Co when you pass Co Springs. It is the most amazing state you can ride in. As far as Gunnison goes the Super 8 is a nice place to lay your head. It is new for one thing and it is very&nbsp\\; clean and cheap. From there I would strongly suggest going to Ouray and on south to Durango. If you see anything is Co. I would suggest it be the road between Ouray and Durango. Plain and simple!

Mile High King:&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Thanks for the tips.&nbsp\\; I'll give it a shot.&nbsp\\; What the hell.&nbsp\\; We've got 9 days, 6 days after Royal Gorge.&nbsp\\; Can't wait!!&nbsp\\; Gotta go hook this up to the printer.
&nbsp\\;
unklekunkle:&nbsp\\; My OL's OK with going to titty bars with me, so a few college girls won't bother her.&nbsp\\; (Used to live in Tallahasse too.&nbsp\\; At that time there were more women in town than guys.)&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;The wife's stripper friends used to live with us.&nbsp\\; (Wife weasn't a stripper , just had cool and hot friends.)&nbsp\\; L-O-N-G time ago.&nbsp\\; God, it was fun though.

Second on Durango-Ouray. Most spectacular road in the nation, especially Silverton-Ouray.

Absolutely do the Ouray to Durango.&nbsp\\; If you take 50 west to Gunnison, go on 60 - 70 miles to Montrose, south on 550 or Townsend Ave, to Ouray, the Switzerland of Colorado.&nbsp\\; From there go on over to Silverton and on to Duranngo.&nbsp\\; You'll never forget that ride.&nbsp\\; Red Mountain Pass is phenominal.&nbsp\\; From there you can go back east on 160 and do the famous "Wolf Creek Pass" and back east through the San Luis Valley.&nbsp\\; If you go on east you'll go over La veta Pass to I-25 at Walsenburg, not that far from Canon City and the Royal Gorge.
&nbsp\\;
God I love living in Colorado!

You could always stop at Supermax in Florence, CO.&nbsp\\; It's the current home of a lot of famous people for the wrong reasons.&nbsp\\; A good photo op and it's just down the road on Hwy 50 from Canon City.

Day 1 (spend night in Gunnison after Royal Gorge) Gunnison&nbsp\\; - Lake City - Creede - Pagosa Springs.
Day 2 - Pagosa Springs - Durango - Ouray - Ridgeway - Telluride - Cortez.
Day 3 - Mesa Verde - Cortez
Day 4 - Cortez - Naturita - Gateway - Grand Junction
Day 5 - Grand Junction - Glenwood Springs - Aspen - Independance Pass - Leadville
Day 6 - Leadville - Silverthorne - Loveland Pass - Empire - Berthoud Pass - Granby
Day 7 - Granby - Trail Ridge Road - Estes Park
Day 8 - Estes Park - Water World @ Denver - Denver
Day 9 - Head Home
&nbsp\\;
Each of these days gives you enough time to take in the towns you'll stop at.&nbsp\\; Day 3 is a full day at Mesa Verde...you need to be a tourist this day and see the Anazi Ruins.&nbsp\\; Day 8 is a play day and Water World is an absolute 'most do' if you're in Denver.&nbsp\\; This route will take you through some of the best of Colorado...I've been to all of it and you won't find many better routes than what I've layed out for you.
&nbsp\\;
Ride safe...send me a PM if you need more info.
&nbsp\\;
Whiskers.
