Oil lines

Is the oil return line on a 98 Heritage the rear most line of the&nbsp\\;three&nbsp\\;on the oil tank? In other words two are side by side the vent and feed. The third which is behind them the return?

I'm not sure about a 98 heritage, but on my 93 Softail, the return is the right most line.&nbsp\\; Go to:

My tank is a bit different. Only two in a row and one behind a bit.

&nbsp\\;It will have that information right there in your service manual.
&nbsp\\;Just look for it in the oil pumpn section.

The pictures in the manual are not easy to understand. I also have a '93 softail manual, and spent considerable time still trying to figure it out, before I simply brought the tank to the shop.
So, here is the deal for the tank with 2 lines beside each other and one behind them:

The one behind is the main feed.
The one closer to you (the right one) is the vent.
The further one (the left one) is the return

And the one on the left side of the tank is obviously the drain.

Also, just as an FYI, typically the vent and the return line are interchangeable.&nbsp\\; Having the return connected to the right one (closest to you) makes it easier if you are going to flush your crankcase oil during oil changes...

Thanks friend. I figured it out. The vent and return was switched. i just followed the one coming from the filter.

I know what you mean. The manual isn't as easy as you think. Well on this bike the two front ones are set up as vent and feed. The one behind is set up as the return. Followed it to the filter.

You are probably right. If you look inside, both (return and vent) terminate at the top, beside each other. One being bent down though. it might be the return, but go figure...

I have also read, that instead of removing the return hose, one can simply run it without the filter.
After collecting 1 qrt, stop the engine, install the filter and add 1 qrt. It is probably way messier though...
