Default Using Oil?

I've got a 2000 Road King.&nbsp\\; Bought new, and I've done most of the maintenance.&nbsp\\; Oil changes religiously with MOCO 20-50.&nbsp\\; I've now got 62,500 miles on her.&nbsp\\; Just returned from a trip that put on about 1000 miles.&nbsp\\; I've got almost 2500 miles on this oil change so I'm prepping to change.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; When I checked, I'm down exactly a quart.&nbsp\\; I've never really been down like this before between changes.&nbsp\\; Is this normal?&nbsp\\; Can I expect to use a quart at about 2500 or is this excessive?&nbsp\\; Wondering if my engine is getting tired.&nbsp\\; Runs great, no problems.&nbsp\\; No smoke, and the oil is still pretty damn clean.&nbsp\\; Just wondering... Thoughts?&nbsp\\; CCRyder

That is not excessive for 62k miles. Could be just normal ring wear causing it. You might think about checking the valve guide seals as well. I would do a compression test and see what it tests out at first.

When I had my VRSCR Harley told me that one quart per 1000 miles is normal.&nbsp\\; That was when it had 3000 miles on it.&nbsp\\; Long story short, it seized with 9800 miles on it...I got rid of it and lost my a$$.

Ok, so you had a brand new bike that within 3,000 miles it was using a quart of oil&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;every 1,000 miles. So you added&nbsp\\;6 quarts of oil to this bike (before it seized) and the dealer told you this was normal and you believed that?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; \\\\\\\\\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Tip: Steer clear of bridge salesmen.

Thanks KB, I'll do that.

FWIW, clogged breather system can cause oil consumption as well. Clogged oil return line too. You might want to check all your lines &amp\\; breather hoses too.

Yup, I still have receipts.&nbsp\\; It was Harley that said it was normal, I live in KC so the dealer got some people from the plant to come out and look at it before and after it seized.&nbsp\\; The dealer spent a lot of time arguing on the phone with them but they would do anything.&nbsp\\; When it locked up I wasn't surprised, the bike was in the shop for a number of issues and they were given plenty of warning that something was wrong.&nbsp\\; So when it finally went and they sent the guys out from the plant, I was told that they would rebuild it 'in good faith', like I did something wrong...
&nbsp\\;
**** I'm getting worked up about it again!
