I've got a 2000 Road King. \\; Bought new, and I've done most of the maintenance. \\; Oil changes religiously with MOCO 20-50. \\; I've now got 62,500 miles on her. \\; Just returned from a trip that put on about 1000 miles. \\; I've got almost 2500 miles on this oil change so I'm prepping to change. \\; \\; When I checked, I'm down exactly a quart. \\; I've never really been down like this before between changes. \\; Is this normal? \\; Can I expect to use a quart at about 2500 or is this excessive? \\; Wondering if my engine is getting tired. \\; Runs great, no problems. \\; No smoke, and the oil is still pretty damn clean. \\; Just wondering... Thoughts? \\; CCRyder

That is not excessive for 62k miles. Could be just normal ring wear causing it. You might think about checking the valve guide seals as well. I would do a compression test and see what it tests out at first.

When I had my VRSCR Harley told me that one quart per 1000 miles is normal. \\; That was when it had 3000 miles on it. \\; Long story short, it seized with 9800 miles on it...I got rid of it and lost my a$$.

Ok, so you had a brand new bike that within 3,000 miles it was using a quart of oil \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;every 1,000 miles. So you added \\;6 quarts of oil to this bike (before it seized) and the dealer told you this was normal and you believed that? \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; \\\\\\\\\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; Tip: Steer clear of bridge salesmen.

FWIW, clogged breather system can cause oil consumption as well. Clogged oil return line too. You might want to check all your lines &\\; breather hoses too.

Yup, I still have receipts. \\; It was Harley that said it was normal, I live in KC so the dealer got some people from the plant to come out and look at it before and after it seized. \\; The dealer spent a lot of time arguing on the phone with them but they would do anything. \\; When it locked up I wasn't surprised, the bike was in the shop for a number of issues and they were given plenty of warning that something was wrong. \\; So when it finally went and they sent the guys out from the plant, I was told that they would rebuild it 'in good faith', like I did something wrong...

**** I'm getting worked up about it again!
