Default Dip stick issue on softail

I have an 06 Heritage Classic, picked up a analog temp gauge dip stick, watching the temperature after riding,&nbsp\\;I noticed that&nbsp\\;it never seemed to go above 200 deg, I'm thinking this is great, after further inspection, I can tell that the&nbsp\\;dip stick&nbsp\\;is not touching the oil in the tank, it must be reading the air in the tank.&nbsp\\; Tested the unit in boiling water and it is reporting the right temperature, so did I get the wrong unit or is that the way these work.

You may have purchased the wrong one. I noticed that there is a long one and a short one.

I went out with a heat gun to check mine, and it's dead on the money (unless both are equally wrong!!)

I think you bought the wrong one. Mine goes into the oil, and works just fine...checked also in boiling water.

I have 06 FXST standard and I bought aftermarket dipstick with analog temp gauge ( non-HD). Yes, it turned out alittle short and ended up buying one from HD. Same price pretty much.
