My son took our old Golden Retriever to the Vet today and I received a call this afternoon advising it was time to let him go. Kidney failure,blind,cancer and nerve damage to the hips. I was kind of expecting it but it was still kinda rough. Me and my middle&nbsp\\;son stayed with him while the vet put him to sleep and then I had to call my little boys ten and twelve and tell them. They live a thousand miles away up in Illinois with their Mom,but they sure loved that dog. They're pretty sad,wish they were here so I could comfort them more.

I named the dog Max but the kid's nicknamed him Goldie and it stuck. Despite the girlie sounding nickname he was a manly and proud dog,grew up around a lot of kids and had a good life. Spend the last year or so with a lot of napping in the sunshine and seemed pretty content.

Cooked up a hamburger for supper and had already cooked up an extra for the dog out of habit,find my self looking out the back door to see what he's doing,hard to realize he's gone.&nbsp\\;I miss him.

Sorry to hear this and I know exactly how you feel.&nbsp\\; I had to put our Rottie down a year ago and it still bothers me.&nbsp\\; Loved that dog and he always showed his 10 times over.

Sorry for your loss but it sounds like you were a good owner and he had a great life.&nbsp\\; I lost a dog in the road when she was three and it hit hard as being unexpected.&nbsp\\; Our oldest just got operated on for a lump and we got lucky.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;Anyway, you really never give back as much as a good pet gives you.&nbsp\\; Hope to see the lost ones in&nbsp\\;Heaven because how can it be Heaven without all the loved ones.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;
