It is not there when cold but when it is warm I hear a "rattle" at the front of the front cylinder valve cover but only from the left side, not from the right side of the engine. When riding, it gets louder from 2500 to 3000 RPM.

Before I tore the cover off, I just wondered if anyone might know what it is...

THANKS!
is there any mods done to the engine such as heads ??
check all the heat shields first before you go ripping into the top endcould be something is rattling loose
Thanks for the reply...

No, no mods. It does have 53,000 miles on it. Being in the side of the primary, I first thought it was the compensating sprocket, but the noise is definately at the rocker box.
