Default Interconnect gasket?

I recently changed all my exhaust gaskets, because I suspected a leak, which I did find at the rear head, but I changed them all anyway. Well, the interconnect, or "crossover" gasket didn't seem to fit like I thought it should. I did it by the book, but the manual was pretty vague. It said to install the gasket into the bell of the rear pipe, and then slide the front pipe into the rear one. I did that, and it seems loose. Did I do something wrong, or does it swell&nbsp\\;up on it's own or something?&nbsp\\;
