Here's a picture of my 08 Fatboy. It was a little hard to get used to the feet forward riding position after all those years on imports. It rides great, better than any other I've had. Now I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just got back after 30+ years, last on Triumph and BSA( yeah, that long ago). Sportster below does everything I want it to. If I were doing 200 miles to the beach and back every weekend I would probably look at a Fatty or a Heritage. Forward controls a quick learn. Hope this helps. Good luck and welcome from Mass.

Welcome from South Florida..........I love my Heritage...........the softails are great all around scooters, but the smart consumer would definately ride the different models and make an informed choice. Just watch the dealers advertisements, they often have test drive promotions especially as the new models are comming out. Best of luck.........
