I have a 05 RK and today on the way home from a 1800 mile trip it started making a clicking noise like a lifter had collapsed. It's constant with engine rpm and rattles on decel fron highway speed, if you rev it up it rattles also. \\; No problem with perfromance, it just sounds like crap. Oil pressure is about 30 pounds hot, at cruise speed, oil level is ok. Had to get home ran about 200 miles like that, maybe it home but just wondering, lifters, cam what??
Tore it apart tonight, didn't really see anything. Exhaust vavle push rod had a little uneven wear pattern on the lifter end. Lifters looked ok, but I'm going to replace the lifters and push rods on that cylinder and see what happens. \\;
Early model 05? Bad valve guide seals maybe? Moco went to different ones part way through 05 model year.
Mine was a mess, and rattled something fierce. Ran like crap.
Done on warranty at 21,000 miles. Heads refurbished, seals, guides, lifters, and tensioner shoes replaced.
I changed the lifters and pushrods on that cylinder tonight. Sounded quieter when I started it and oil pressure looked a little higher. I'll find out tomorrow for sure, going for 50 mile test ride and see what happens. I'm not sure if mine is early or not, I'll check in the morning.
I recently had a noise that sounded exactly like it was in the valve train. \\; Turned out to be a split in the rear exhaust pipe. \\; It was on the top of the pipe about 6" from where it comes out of the cylinder head. \\; It took me a while to find it because it was under the heat shield. \\; New pipe fixed the noise.

Rode about 60 miles and no noise, I think that fixed it. Going on a 400 mile round trip ride in a week I'll know for sure then. I really like all the input from everyone here it's a great place to ask questions and get answers from someone who isn't trying to sell you something. I've got answers that saved me about $300.00 on my wife's Sportster here. Thanks Again.
