I'm taking the wife and kid in the cage July 4th weekend...checking out Olympic Park for the fieworks, booked to go to the Aquarium, CNN, Coca Cola, the kid wants to go the Varsity for a hot dog, and I want to go Glayds and Ron's get that chicken and waffles...
any locals out there have any recommendations for the family to do (no Magic City this time around)
thanks

The Braves are in town and always have a great fireworks show on the 4th. \\; Stay out of the Buckhead/Midtown area until at least 11 a.m. on Friday or you'll get caught in the crush of humanity we call the Peachtree Road Race.
 \\;
Take your Immodium if you're going to the Varsity. \\;[:'(][:'(]

The Varsity isn't that bad, so don't be deterred. \\; I enjoy the occasional visit  \\;personally.\\\\\\; The Fernbank Museum would be worth going to, too. \\;\\\\\\; The Atlanta Zoo is good and you might give Stone Mountain a try. \\;\\\\\\; Fellini's Pizza is also very good and if you like ribs, give Fat Mac's Rib Shack a try in Buckhead. \\;\\\\\\; Hope you have a great time. \\;\\\\\\;
Dude, the only reason Atlantans go to the Varsity regularly is to stay regular! Not award winning food there. Now on the way back threw Macon stop in to" Nu/way" diner \\;on Cotton Ave. Now yur talkin fine dining,(best dogs around). Dave...

No, the Varsity is not fine dining, but it is tasty and fun. \\; The kiddo will probably enjoy a Frosted Orange too. \\; Hell, even my Mom still loves to go there.
I will be watching this post also as I am leaving tonight to lake oconee to my inlaws lake house which is about 90 miles east of atlanta. I will see what suggestions the atlanta members offer, we are going to be up there for a week or so..I am bringing the jet skies up with us. We are going to the braves game on friday....
 \\;
Been to the aquarium
been to the coca cola factory
been to the underground city
 \\;
will watch for more suggestions...

Lake Oconee is nice. \\; One of the last of the big area lakes to undergo development. \\; Was out there ten or fifteen years ago and the lake water was still clean enough that you could uncover clams around the edges of the lake. \\; Don't know if that's still true.
 \\;
Just depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. \\; As to eats: \\; good steaks can be had at Chops and Bones. \\; Canoe is good too, but they are pricey places. \\; The Virginia Highlands area of town is funky and eclectic with some good eateries. \\; So is Little Five Points. \\; If you're into burger's, here are three of Atlanta's best and I can vouch for Vortex, they are really good there: \\; http://www.dslreports.com/faq/13649
 \\;
I've been wanting to go to the Medieval Times Dinner Theatre up in Lawrenceville as it sounds fun, but I think you Floridians have one of those in Orlando. \\; Being at the Braves Game on the 4th at The Ted should be fun.

This may be too out of your way, but I love this place: \\; http://www.noahs-ark.org/
