Default Clearcoat over decals?

I've got some nice die-cut decals for my tourpak, and I want to clearcoat over them for weatherproofing and to prevent peeling.
&nbsp\\;
Anyone got advice on clearcoating? Is there some rattlecan spray clearcoat that will come out nice, or do I need to shell out for a professional to do it?

I had a pro do mine.&nbsp\\; Not afraid to tackle the unknown but I was really thinking I could screw this one up.&nbsp\\; I've never done any paint work.

Paint is definitely something I prefer to let the pros do. If I screw a bolt up, I can always tap it or replace it. i screw paint up...Im going to end up shelling out alot of money anyway so letting a pro do it the first time seems cheaper.

I'd let the pro's do it.&nbsp\\; Surface prep is as important as spraying the clearcoat.&nbsp\\; Plus, if you have any contaminants in your equipment, you'll hose the job.

I clearcoated over&nbsp\\; the decals on my old 72 FX and it works well.It was done by a body painter though,and not a spray can.

Do you have enough money to do the job right, or do you have enough money to do the job twice?

Good point Silvertip!!&nbsp\\; I know enough to do it right, and know that a professional will do it once!!&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
I've clear-coated over decals before with a $10 spraycan from a paint supplier.&nbsp\\; I was instructed to lightly scuff&nbsp\\;the surface (1,000 grit sandpaper/sponge) before applying the decal, wiping it with solvent prior to applying, then clear-coating in multiple layers every 30 minutes.&nbsp\\; The tank I re-painted turned out really well, and the decals were finished well too.&nbsp\\; However, I had a pro do another project of clear-coating, and for $150 I had a professionally done job with no time lost.&nbsp\\; I dropped the parts off and two days later I had them ready to assemble.
&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Go Pro!!

watch it with the decals they have to be paintable or solvents will lift the glue and wrinkle them

A little trick to keep that from happening is to lightly fog the first coat from a fair distance. Wait a half an hour, and fog it again.
Once the second fog sets, you can lay a clean first coat. The two fog coats will seal the decal and keep it from lifting.
