Default Pinging sound coming from primary cover???

I have a 2006 WG with only 5000mi. on it,&nbsp\\;this past weekend I heard a pinging sound coming from the area of my primary cover.&nbsp\\; Seems to be happening when getting on or off&nbsp\\;the gas in 2nd or 3rd the most can't hear it sitting still.&nbsp\\; Any ideas, hope it's not the inner primary bearing going out?

Is it coming from the front of the housing? Could be teh dreaded stator bolts failing. I few have had issues with them on the 06 models. HD changed the design for the 07 models.

I have the same noise, wether I'm sitting in nuetral, or pull the clutch in and crack the throttle i'll hear it.&nbsp\\; Alot of info on the stator/rotor problem on the 06's, mines an 06.&nbsp\\; DAMN IT!!!&nbsp\\;

I believe I had the same sound on my 07 WG.&nbsp\\; It would happen when I'd get on the gas kinda hard.&nbsp\\; The sound went away when I swapped my stock mufflers for a set of SEII's.&nbsp\\; Maybe it was a backpressure issue.&nbsp\\; JUst seems odd.

Come to think of it, I have been using the good stuff lately. &nbsp\\; Suppose that's why the sound went away.&nbsp\\; I never equated 87 octane with the symptom.&nbsp\\; Oh well. &nbsp\\;

dont think its the IPB if you do not hear it all the time sounds more like a motor ping but that should be more prevelant in higher gears and not backing off. I dont recall does that 06 have auto chain adjuster possibly primary&nbsp\\;chain is loose? Just a thought chain is under the most load at those times.

Stator? I just had the bolts back out of my rotor and chewed the stator all to hell. Cost @$275 to fix myself. Mine went at 24K miles, but seems most go way earlier. I had a weird vibration for 2 days that I could not pinpoint and then wamo!...all hell broke loose and sounded like metal in a blender. I would have it checked as soon as you can.

Hey morepowr, I'm positive that's my issue.&nbsp\\; I've checked everything else in the primary &amp\\; I know that's where it's coming from.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;From what I hear the 07 rotor is one welded peice instead of two peices bolted together.&nbsp\\; Is that what you bought for your 06 was the 07 one peice set up &amp\\; if so does it fit with or without modifications?
