My wife and I went for a ride the other day. We got caught in the rain and when we pulled off the road we shut the bikes down. When she tried to restart her bike (2005 Sportster 1200C) \\;\\\\\\;the turn signals started to flash alternating sides. The bike would not do anything. I went to put it in a more secure location and then I thought I would try messing with the security system. I set it and turned it off twice and then the bike started. Does anyone have a clue why this would have done this? I thought maybe the security system caused it, but when I set the system and tried to start it would at least crank. I am lost. Any help would be great. Just trying to avoid this issue down the road again.

I certainly don't have a definitive answer for you, but it sounds to me like the security system was inadvertently activated - possibly by the water from the rain finding it's way to an electrical exposure? \\;\\\\\\; Resetting the security system cleared what activated it, or at least that's what's apparent to me. \\;\\\\\\; It is wierd, but I believe something put \\;\\\\\\;the bike \\;\\\\\\;in an alarm-activated condition, because the alternating blinking of the signals is a function of an alarmed bike being tampered with.

Let us know if you ever get to the bottom of it.

I sure will. That is one thing I did not do. I will \\;set the alarm and then try to get it to activate. Then try to start it. I will let you know as soon as I get home and try it.
You didn't happen to be near any automatic doors did you? \\; Mine will NOT start if I'm within about 25 feet of an automatic door. \\; Apparently something in the door's electronics affects my security system. \\; It was pretty embarrasing the first time it happened at the shop, until I made THEM come out and try it, then we figured it had to be the doors interferring. \\; I also had a problem at my step son's house, apparently someone in the house next door had some type of electronic gadget that interferred. \\;

Actually it works just fine. \\; The problem seems to be kind of like that thing that used to happen with my Radar detector in the car, when I went by a store with automatic doors it would set off the detector. \\; I just don't park too close to the automatic doors.

I was happy to now get to use those small triangle areas to park near the door. Dont tell me I cannot park there or I am going to buy a Vespa. THEY dont issue with doors.
I am an idiot. When I bought my wifes bike the dealer did not show me how the security systen actually worked. So since I bought it I always pushed the button twice, the lights flash, I thought the security system was set. NOT. I discovered over the weekend since this has been bothering me since it happend. I kept trying to duplicate the issue. So I went to push the button again and held it a bit to long the first push and the blinkers flashed. I said, Hmmm. I tried to start the bike and nothing except for the turn signals coming on and alternating. BINGO. At least I figured it out and and man enough to tell you guys I am an idiot....lmao.....
