Default Another 08' fuel problem report

Went to my dealer this morning and asked them about the fuel pump problems on the 08's. The SM says it is the fuel canister in the tank that is cracking and not the pump. He said they are about fifteen dollars so I thought I would just buy one and keep it with me. He said that you also have to replace the gasket on the tank cover and that the screws are a one shot deal and that the screws would need to be replaced as well if changing out this part. So it sounds like I will have to carry alot more parts than I thought. The screws are no problem but the gasket might get squished. T.

I too have been reading about faulty fuel canisters, and called three different HD dealers here in Michigan, and asked the service manager if they have encountered this problem.&nbsp\\;I got the same answer from all three, they stated, that&nbsp\\;as of yet, they have not had to replace any defective fuel filter canisters. I'm kinda wondering if maybe this is getting blown out of preportion ???
I have a 08 classic, so I do have an interest in this. So far&nbsp\\;I have&nbsp\\;5500 miles on it with no problems.

Then you'd need this tool to carry also

I was traveling down the road on three different occasions, and I heard a startling 1 sec HISS. I was told it was the fuel pressure regulator that has a clip on it that was&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;faulty, and when it goes, it&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;will not allow the pressure to build up and the bike&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;will not start. I have an appointment on july 9th. I will report back after that.

I just had mine replaced and on the 08 models, you do&nbsp\\;NOT have the screws that need replacing, just the rubber gasket which can be replaced.&nbsp\\; As far as the special tool..... just use a screwdriver lined up on one of the tabs and tap on it with a hammer to unscrew it from the retaining ring.
I had 8100 miles on mine when it failed and it is the "clip" on the canister which fails causing a loss if fuel pressure.&nbsp\\; The parts are redesigned and are on back order all over the country.

Well mine died at about 5500 miles. Fortunately I was only 70 miles away at a friend's house. I've been waiting since Sunday. Parts are supposedly being shipped. I bought my '08 Ultra last September. Hopefully there won't be anymore cheap-assed parts they foisted on us to save a few bucks. It could have been much worse, but I am pissed at H-D. The dealer has been fine, its the damn bean counters or whichever moron decided to use crap in a design. The service guy knew exactly what the problem was when I described it to him. He's going to order extras as he expects more failures to come. The parts are backordered, but they get an allocation which shows how bad the problem is. He wishes they would just do a recall so everyone could be taken care of before you get a surprise in a bad spot.

I was at the dealer yesterday getting some exhaust and stage 1.I asked the SM if he had any and just so happened the guy next to me&nbsp\\; was there for that very problem.He said his buddes went out one day and his the next.I only have about 3000 miles on mine but kind of expecting any day.I dont think it is getting blown out of proportion like some things on here do ,It does seem to be a problem&nbsp\\;just don't know when .&nbsp\\;
