Default problems starting my bike...

okay, i have a '94 883&nbsp\\;and&nbsp\\;when i turn the key to the "on" position, all the lights come on, but as soon as i hit the "start" button, what i think is the starter clicks one or two times, then everything goes dead.&nbsp\\; i then have to push start by bike and it runs fine.&nbsp\\; when i shut it off, the thing and it all starts over again.&nbsp\\; i have changed the starter regulator and the battery is holding more than original charge (i was told there was no way of doing a load test on my battery).&nbsp\\; i visually checked the fuses, then realized that i don't know what they are supposed to look like.&nbsp\\; they all look the same, so unless they are all blown, they look fine.&nbsp\\; whats next??

Put the multimeter on the battery while hitting the start button, to see if the voltage drops at all. If not you want to buy a service manual for the specs, and check the voltage regulator while hitting the start button. Follow the tests in your manual, it should be your bible.

My money's on the battery.&nbsp\\; "No way to load test the battery" is BS.&nbsp\\; Sick1200 has a good test right there.&nbsp\\; Also check the ground connection from the battery, battery cable from + to the starter.

The first thing I would do is tighten all 4 ends of the battery cable connections.&nbsp\\; I don't mean check them, I mean get a wrench on them and TIGHTEN them.&nbsp\\; This hit and miss starting fiasco is common with Spotsters and the problem can almost always be traced to a loose battery cable end.&nbsp\\; I mean loose as in "not good electrical contact".&nbsp\\; It may appear tight, but hit 'em with a wrench to know in your head and heart that they are tight.&nbsp\\; If they are at all dirty or have any corrosion, take them off , clean the contact ends with a wire brush and sandpaper, and reattach them FIRMLY.
