OK, I ventured off into new territory and bought a custom built (not by me) bike. Here is the problem that I did not think about... What manual(s) can I buy that will help me?
The motor is a 82 shovel out of an unknown bike (not sure that the original bike model matters anymore), the frame is a 87 Paughco rigid, and the tranny is a Sputhe 5 speed unknown model. I need to adjust the clutch, change all the fluids, and what-not but would REALLY like a manual of sorts to help.
Any thoughts?

Well, that is the plan but knowing torque specs and clutch settings and oil pressures and all the standard stuff you need a manual for can not be "made up"...
According to your advice, I should just remove all the plugs I see and note down what pours out to see if it is tranny or engine? Come on.

wasnt tryin to be ugly....but if you have questions about oil or specs you clearly dont have the savvy to maintain a custom....get pissed off if you want, just state'n facts

I was thinking on getting an 82 FX manual for the motor, and I contacted sputhe for info on the tranny...I will get it all together eventually. I was just asking to see if any of you guys had any thoughts on how to maintain a custom built. No worries (yet)
Sorry, you comment caught me off guard. I have maintained factory bikes before, and have moved on to a non-factory one for the first time. I am a good wrench turner and I will figure it all out the hard way if necessary.
I'll take it off your hands.

Any book or manual on the shovel engine will be worth having. S&\\;S has a service manual on their website that you can download for that carb.

Find an old timer wrench in your area and they are usually happy to tell you all about your ride. Good luck and nice bike.
If you know much about mechanics at all, torque specs on bolts are standardized by size, thread, and grade of fastener.
If you stay within these standards you cannot go far wrong.
As far as particular specs for adjustments, I would say that most any shovel manuel will cover those.
For the rest of it, if you can't get it from the mfgr, you're pretty much on your own.
I'll say one thing, if you stick with it, You'll damn sure know about it when you're done.
