Default San Diego Area - Rosarito Beach Run

We are going to be in the San Diego area at the end of the month and were thinking of taking in the Rosarito Beach run down to Mexico on the 26th.&nbsp\\; Any of you familiar with this run or have information to share?&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Are there any other "I can't believe you were in Southern Cali and didn't ride this route" highways or byways in the area?
&nbsp\\;
Appreciate your responses.
&nbsp\\;
Paul

Hey Maniac,
&nbsp\\;
The Baja area south of the border has been getting a lot of bad press lately. The crimes against American tourist have become frequent and quite ugly to say the least. I travel by bike into Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco, Sonora Mexico) a few time a year for beach fun and never have any problems (even solo) there, but the people in the state of Sonora don't seem to be as oppressed as the State of Baja California are. If this is a group ride, I think it would be great for you, but I would caution going solo.

I would not ride SOLO unless you hate your bike, your money and your clothes, that is what&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;several people lately have returned without..... my family owns millions and millions of dollars worth of property down south, I will not even go down to check it out..... I have been riding down there most of my life.... once you are 10-20 miles south of the border everything is supposed to be fine.... getting there is the problem..... many killings lately and lots and lots of hostage for money cases... the drug dealers and the thieves seem to be running Mexico lately, the Army has been called in as the Police are not handling it, they seem to die when against the superior force...Ride the San DIego mountains and have a great time....

maniac:
Check out Sunrise Hwy. One of the nicest rides in SD County.
It runs from I-8 north to Julian.
&nbsp\\;
Have fun.

I haven't been, but it looks like an organized, escorted event leaving from National City.&nbsp\\; Shouldn't have any problems going.
&nbsp\\;
There is some nice riding in the mountains of San Diego (where it's cooler). Check out Julian on the 79 as mentioned and the Hideout on 76, as well as others.

Hey thanks for the heads up on this trip.&nbsp\\; I didn't add that it was an organized run leaving from Sweetwater HD.&nbsp\\; It is a charity run for the school kids in Mexico.&nbsp\\; marcss posted the link to the site.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
I talked to the organizer and he said that they have a police escort on the US side down to the border, then the Mexican federal police escort the group down to Papas &amp\\; Beer bar and then back to the border.&nbsp\\; He said that they had around 300 bikes last year.&nbsp\\; I'm guessing that it's&nbsp\\;pretty safe considering.&nbsp\\; Judging from the pictures from last year it looks like one hell of a party.
&nbsp\\;
I was just hoping to get some info from someone who has actually done the run.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;Thanks mjh and marcss for the tip on the Sunrise Hwy ride and the Hideout on 76.&nbsp\\; We’re really looking forward to this trip.&nbsp\\; We’ve never rode on the coast before so it’s going to take some doing to keep the bike on the road while watching all the scenery.

The federal police are just as bad as the dopers.&nbsp\\; Went down last year and had money extorted by the local cops.&nbsp\\; F'em and that AZZ bag of a country, they can keep it.

You are placing your life/family's lives and property at stake.&nbsp\\; Too many problems because of the drug cartel and crooked police.&nbsp\\; Escort by the locals yahoos will not help if its guns a blazin' in the streets.&nbsp\\; I will bet they will not be watching you scoots if it is an over nighter.

Support your local FREEDOM RIDERS!!!!

i went last year and had a blast. the guys who organize this ride really do a great job and they know how to plan a successful ride. there were over 300 bikes last year and the escort into mexico was very smooth and the ride was spectacular. the party at papas and beer was legendary. i went by myself but had no problem making some new friends and partying till the ultimate wet t-shirt contest happened. let me tell you, there's many stories to tell from the Rosarito Run, but what happens in Rosarito stays in Mexico!
