I ride to the Dealer today for a parking lot party. \\; The wife and I decide to finally purchase a back-rest, $300 lighter I own a nice detachable set-up. \\; Since I am riding the bike, I ask what it would take to get the set-up put on. \\; Of course I was directed to the service department, they tell me it will be 2 hours labor ($120). \\; I tell them I just purchased the set-up for $300 and now they want to charge an additional $30 per bolt to install the disconnects. \\; Anyway I managed to borrow a tape gun and tape all of the boxes together, the wife held them for the hour ride to the house. \\; I kid you not 15 minutes after I get home the complete assembly is installed and ready to go. \\; I am not sure I will be buying anything else from this dealer in the near future. \\;
 \\;
My question, is this standard operating procedures for dealers?
 \\;
Holy cow!.... you mean the dealership is in business to make money? Who knew?
You don't think there's a difference between being in it to make money and outright goughing of the consumer? It takes some mighty big balls to try and charge 2 hours labor to install a detachable backrest, something that took me all of 20 minutes and i'm far from being a wrench. Even charging a 1 hour minimum would be somewhat tolerable, but tacking on an extra hour is a complete joke.
I've had good luck with our dealer here in Nashville (Boswell's, three locations). I think my 1000 mile service was $199. They are always cheerful and make a point of saying hi and what's new.
