(SOLTAIL) Drivebelt rubbing on low guard on 07 Deuce
My sons 07 deuce had a noise even with the stock plastic guard since1.5K and after installing the chrome guard it has only gotten worse 3.5K now. My 07 Heritage is fine, but his noise is heard even over his Vance-Hines BB 2-2, tonight he took the fornt screw out the guard and left only the back 2 screws in place and the noise stoped. The guard seems to be low in the front part of the frame because the holes dont line up correctly and puts a strain on the guard making it go lower when installed, thus causing the top (the tooth part) of the belt to rub the lower (top part of the guard), this noise was also noticed on a center bike jack lift when the tire was spun, he is now taking the bike out a spin to see is if it solved the problem.
He just called to tell me that he is leaving the front bolt out and that has taken care of the noise. Now we need to find out if the guards are faulty or the swingarm is bored wrong.
when you install the lower belt guard you have to put the upper rear tab inside the upper guards tab where the bolt goes through. it should be swing arm, lower guard tab, upper guard tab. I put mine on wrong a scraped the crap out of my pulley before I figured out what I did.
I think he installed correctly, even the stock lower belt guard made the same noise and the new chrome one has gotten worse with miles.
Since last post he has left the back two screws in place and did not install the front one, (this did stop the noise) and is plenty strong to hold the guard in place. He said the front hole on the guard is a 1/2 hole out (high) looking at it and when he pulls it down to install bolt it makes the top of the lower guard rub the drive belt. I told him to go back to dealer and talk through it...thanks
