Default OMG, whats a FATBOY owner doing here? Answer: The FXDWG

So what gives? Why is a Fatboy Sloptail owner invading the DYNA section? Well, simply put I want to give my Fatty a playmate at night in the garage probably in a year or two. I have REALLY been checking out the 88" Wide Glides and have a few questions.

What year did HD kick out the rake from 32 degrees to 34 degrees?

Being a guy at 5'6" Ill have to move the foot controls back a few inches.... are the WG frames machined for the wayyyy forward controls only? Are there people with Wide Glides that have moved their controls back?

Im looking at carbed 88 c.i. models and plan to go nuts with engine mods and leave my Fatboy's 96 at Stage 1. For those that have punched out their 88 Twinkies to 95", hows the performance? did you add cams and install higher compression pistons? How have the rubber mounts held up to the power increase?

Thats all for now I guess. thanks!

Some models were 32 dergree rake and some 34 degree.&nbsp\\; I don't think it was a model year thing.&nbsp\\; For example I have a 2000 Low rider with a 34 degree rake and there was a dyna convertable (practically the same bike except with windshield and bags) but a 32 degree rake.

Wideglide changed rake in 06, with the new Dyna frames.
I have not rode the new one, only my old 01, and a buddies 03, the same.
They handle very well,&nbsp\\;better than you would guess&nbsp\\;considering the 21" front.
&nbsp\\;
Anyone rode the old&nbsp\\;vs the new frames?
&nbsp\\;
BTW, I believe the new LowRider has the same rake as the FXD's now.
Before 06 they were the same frame as the&nbsp\\;WG, only lowered.
&nbsp\\;
but I could be wrong.&nbsp\\;

Good info so far. Looks like the frame was redesigned in 06, probably to fit the new 6 speed and that 2 degrees of rake was added in. Was it the 2006 Dyna's that got standard fuel injection? I know it was company wide in 2007, but did they use the 2006 Dyna's as test mules?

I,m 5'6 and the forwards fit me really well. I had to adjust the rear brake pedal back towards me a little bit, but other than that, the forwards should be fine.

Did they add the extra two degrees in 2006 to the triple trees or the actual neck? Also how were the 5 speeds as far as shifting and maintenance?

Thanks VenturaChop.
Where is this info to be found in Harley literature?
to ebeattie:
I loved my 01 WideGlide. 5 speed shifted smooth (HD Synoil)
I'm 6'0" and I added 2" extension to FW controls, made it fit perfect.
&nbsp\\;
Did not know how they got the rake, just that the neck on the Superglide was
different than on the LR and WG.
&nbsp\\;
I wonder what the rake was on 90's Wide Glides, Evo bikes?
Anybody?

06 also came with the six speed that is in your fat boy but still had the 88 inch motor. My son rides an 07 Wide Glide. Hes about 5 8 and had a tough time reaching so he rebuilt (we) the seat to get him closer. The reach seat from harley would do the same, its just that I did custom upholstery for a decade or so. He loves the ride and wouldnt change it for any other harley.
