looking for comments on sturgis and young kids (under 6).
 \\;
there is a lot of activity that is not x-rated and that is interesting - and its easy enough to avoid those areas that would be inappropriate.
 \\;
has any of you brought younger kids and how did it work out.
 \\;
went to sturgis with my brother last year - i rode and he drove my support vehicle (actually he decided to go also, but because of health reasons, he did not want to ride)
 \\;
so this year i talked my wife into going, but because she doesn't want to be the only female with me and my bro, my 21 yr old daughter is also coming.
 \\;
then my nephew and his wife want to do some camping and asked me to go with them.......
but i will be in sturgis
 \\;
so my nephew and his wife were thinking about going to sturgis with us and bringing the kids. \\; but are questioning if there is enough stuff to do with their kids. \\;
 \\;
the races, building contests, various scenic sites, badlands, etc. are all things that younger kids could enjoy so that stuff would work.
 \\;
might be okay

Well maybe its just me but, I wouldn't take kids to Sturgis during a rally. Why have to worry about avoiding places? The kids and their innocence are too \\;precious to risk....just my 2 cents
Would I? Yes. But that is me, and I know how I raised my kids.
15 yrs ago, I wouldn't have. But Sturgis proper (NOT Buffalo Chip or Glencoe) has turned into a Vegas atmosphere. I can steer you to Christian campgrounds, Senior (Ol' Fart) campgrounds, etc. and not worry 'bout the wild side. I have seen numerous ppl even pushing kids in strollers out there. It all depends on how your family acts and reacts to circumstances, IMFUO. On top of that, you can spend the entire week out there, and never have to \\;go to downtown Sturgis during the 'bewitching' hours (read that, nights/evenings) And Lord knows, the Black Hills can be a wonderful spot and experience for ALL ages, even us Ol' Farts.  \\;There are races, hill climbs, etc to attend. With a little fore-thought and planning, you can have a great family outing, and avoid the so called 'wild' side. But that is just my opinion. My first Sturgis was '72, and you definitely would NOT want to expose \\;the family to what downtown was then, which is what Buffalo Chip is now. AGAIN, \\;this is MFUO.  \\;

We have family up there so we usually have them but we only take them during the early part of the day. Obviously they can't go into bars or anything and the cops keeps main street pretty tame. I've never seen any flashing or anything in the last 5 years or so. We'll mostly stick to the area where \\;most of \\;the builders are too.
 \\;
We also never take them there more than one day. Our teenagers (16 &\\; 17 yr girls) will go maybe a couple times only because they're looking for a shirt or something. But ONLY with us.
 \\;
There's nothing there they've never seen before but there's also no reason for them to be there longer than an afternoon with mom &\\; dad before mom &\\; dad get crazy.
No doubt these are the same type of people who think it's ok to bring kids to a bar, or other adult-oriented event. then they ignore them and everyone else suffers.
Leave your rug rats at home.
Most of us go to get away from the bitching and whining.
 \\;
No offense, but half the reason these rallys have become watered down rough and tumble disneylands is because folks end up bringing their kids into an environment not meant for kids and then get all bent out of shape because someone does something that offends them.
 \\;
Not sayin you're the type that would get all bent out of shape, but sorry, rallys ain't for kids.
I have some faint memories from when I was aobut 4-5 years old, crazy #!$! with drunken relatives... I wouldn't bring kids within about 100 miles of sturgis. \\; Shocking revalations of the greater world burn deep in a young mind. \\;
Kids usually react negatively to crowds and heat, long lines, sitting in traffic, and lousy food. \\; That's what you will have no matter where you go that week in the Black Hills.
 \\;
I wouldn't want to have my Sturgis vacation messed up because someone else brought kids that you had to worry about. But you do see kids out theremore and more each year.
