Yesterday, I decided to make a day trip to Vicksburg National Battlefield in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It's about 200 miles from home. I planned on taking the interstate there and back to give me maximum time to visit once there. After visiting the battlefield I looked at different things in town and then decided to head out to Poverty Point, Louisiana. When I left there I rode back roads into Arkansas and crossed the Mississippi back into Mississippi and made my way back down to Vicksburg via the great country roads in that area. I then rode the Natchez Trace Parkway down to Natchez, MS. If you haven't been on the parkway I highly recommend it. Ate dinner at Taco Hell and then headed home. My planned 400 mile day trip turned into 758 miles! I left at 7 am and arrived home at 1:30 am. It was a very long day, but well worth it. Luckily, I have the day off today so I was able to sleep in. I guess in the time I was gone I could have almost done an Iron Butt run.

I've been to the park a few times and it's a humbling experience.Best view of the river in the country from there.Also been down the Trace to Natchez and a visit to the corner bar,what a great place.

I visited the battlefield a number of years ago. I am a history freak.

Have you ever visited the ruins of "Windsor"? It's just outside Port Gibson Mississippi.

I like how how they have the big "Welcome to Mississippi" sign on the west side of the bridge and a bunch of canons on the east side...&nbsp\\; Neat area, drove though there on the way to Pensacola FL a couple years ago and REALLY want to go spend some time down there.

Yes. I did go to the Windsor ruins. I was surprised by that as I didn't know what to expect. That was also a really nice road on the way there from Port Gibson. Unfortunately, my camera battery died by the time I got there.

Thats one battlefield I'd love to visit. Being from Pennsylvania, I've been to Gettysburg lots of times. Also been to Sharpsburg and Mannassas. Have yet to ride the bike to any of them but probably riding to Gettysburg this summer. Can't wait because the scenery in that area is great.

If you ever get down to VA the Petersburg and Yorktown battle fields are also really good.
