Default fuel pump problem 2008 uc

&nbsp\\;My 2008 ultra started to sputter and backfire and finally just quit on me. I took the plugs out and they looked black so I changed them thinking that was the problem, no luck . I trailered the bike to the harley dealer and he told me that there is a part attached to the fuel filter that breaks loose causing the bike to quit because of lack of fuel. It seems that this is a problem for 2008 bikes. The tech put in a new part that replaced the old part and the bike runs fine. I hope I was able to explain this correctly so that others don't get stuck like I was .

My father in law had the same issue. There are a ton of posts on the forum regarding this issue. Results appear to be inconsistent between the bikes.

ddwyer,
&nbsp\\;The tech told me that this was a common problem and Harley Davidson already has a different part to fix the problem. I hope that others will see this post and have that part replace.

Changed mine a week ago. Took one hour. Mine fell apart when I pulled it out of the tank. Defiantly a problem but I don't think the forum wants me to talk about it.

Yuppers, lots of posts abound about the issue.&nbsp\\; New part is 62229-08A (old part was -08 without the A) which is a $30 part retail.&nbsp\\; I will probably change mine out just to give me something to do instead of mowing lawn&nbsp\\;

Lot of the '08's are seeing this - from the looks of it, they're ALL gonna fail.&nbsp\\; It IS a shame that HD won't step up to the plate an' simply replace 'em routinely, since it appears that they're gonna be a problem for everyone.&nbsp\\; May be the best thing is for those of ya havin' the problem, report it to the NHTSA as a SAFETY issue, stressing that failure while traveling in front of a loaded semi could git ya reduced ta tire paste.

That's probably because you're too "defiant".
