Default Clean Slate

Hey Guys,&nbsp\\; It looks like I am going to have a clean slate to start over with.&nbsp\\; I hit a deer with my new 08 FLSTC Saturday.&nbsp\\; I believe they are going to total my bike.&nbsp\\; I love that bike, but now I will be starting over with a clean slate.&nbsp\\; I think I will be looking for a used bike, as there are so many low mileage ones out there.&nbsp\\; The question is, what year and model would you recommend and why.&nbsp\\; I do like the 16" front wheel as I think it holds the road better.&nbsp\\; I am really not into baggers yet.&nbsp\\; I guess what I am asking is what year and engine.&nbsp\\; Any replies would be greatly appreciated.&nbsp\\; I am really trying to make an informed decision.&nbsp\\;

Not really into baggers yet...lol...then go for a Road King. They look great with the windshield off. Plenty of 02-06 bikes out there with low mileage that alreadyhave HD 95" stage II kits in them. Granted the HD stage is not the most powerful but you can always upgrade the bike a bit more with the money you save by going used.
&nbsp\\;
Also look for used 07s with 103" kits.

Actually it's not a trick question.&nbsp\\; I hear people talk of the virtures of this year engine vs. that year engine.&nbsp\\; Evolution, Twincam, etc.&nbsp\\; I know my 08 had "parent bearing material" for one cam journal.&nbsp\\; I did not know that till after I bought it and began researching.&nbsp\\; Did I have any trouble with it? Nope, not in the 6K I put on it.&nbsp\\; I guess what I am asking for is the engine the builders like the best.&nbsp\\; I have lots of time for this while the ribs and leg heal.

Loved my 04 Heritage... had over 65,000 miles on it and it ran like a dream (till totaled, like yours).

One side of me is saying, good, you have a clean slate, and some coin to buy chalk with.
BUT the other side is saying, those darn Bambi's, gots yet another one.
They are like a plague up our way.
But the whole me says, dammed glad you are ok, and looking to get right back into the saddle again.
Know you are stating NOT into baggas yet, but there are some really nice slammed, cubed and painted ones out there.
IMFUO, jump on Cycle Trader, Craigslist, and the other for sale sites. Shop til you drop, looking at ALL the options, etc you even think you want. Then work from there. And with the economy in the tank, there are some super nice scoots at some fantastic prices right now. And they will only get better in 6 weeks (Sturgis will be over).
Happy hunting. I try not to make actual suggestions, cause what I like or want is prob'ly not even remotely close to what you like.
I really enjoy wrenching on my scoots, so I shy away from TC's, they require too many special tools to work on.
EVOs are alot like shovelheads, fairly decent to work on, but for the most part, more road reliable than the shovels, and much easier to cube up.
Guess it depends on how fast you want to be going when you meet the next one. [:@]
And I too am waiting to hear how the parent mat'l brgs are going to hold up. I know, Iknow, the Japs have been doing it for a while, yadda yadda, but I am still REAL ol' school, and I guess I am stuck in the past.&nbsp\\;
