Default Gas Leak Question

I recently had my 06' Ultra painted.&nbsp\\; After bringing it home, I discovered that if I top off the gas tank, I see gasoline running down and along the center console of the tank...
&nbsp\\;
I know there's some sort of rubber gasket material that sits between the actual tank and the fill port. Is there something I should check or possible replace.
&nbsp\\;
Curious to know if anyone else has had this happen after a paint job or tank work.

The "boot" fits on the tank console and over the filler neck.&nbsp\\; HD part no. 61112-82A for my '04 EG.&nbsp\\; I replaced mine when I switched tank consoles as they tend to deform when they've been on the bike a while.
&nbsp\\;
There is also a gasket for the filler cap.&nbsp\\; HD part no. 61109-85D.
&nbsp\\;
The only time I've had a leak at the filler was when I filled the tank with the bike very upright and parked it shortly thereafter on a very hot day.
&nbsp\\;
There should be a vent&nbsp\\;hose attached to the base of the tank console at the filler neck.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Check to be sure it's installed.&nbsp\\;

Default RE: Gas Leak Question

a couple things to chesk as noted above:
Make sure the external overflow tube is connect.&nbsp\\; This will come out on the right side of the bike just in front of the rear tire. The connection is actually in the next of the fule filler area.
Also was the fuel pump removed dring the paint job? I assume so. When reinstalling was a new set of screws used to attach the fuel pup assy back to the top of the tank? If you re-used the old scres it WILL leak. The screws have a plastic filler around them that seals the bolt hole area. Also a new gasket is needed.

The leak itself is coming from the top of the tank somewhere...&nbsp\\; I suspect the "boot" the gentlemen decscribed above because the gas I see is coming down from the neck and running along the center console.

Default RE: Gas Leak Question

My buddy just had this same problem on his 08 Standard.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; They finally determined that it was the gascap.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; They replaced it and it's not shed a drop since.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Hope this helps.
