I just recently bought this bike and had it out the other day for a good ride. The bike hasnt had that in a while. But in doing so I realized a little fluid dripping out of the gear shaft that runs into the primary case. I have not been able to get much help from my local harley shop and was just wondering if any of you knew which parts i need and any little tips. I am waiting for my manual to show up but damn its time to ride and i want this thing fixed. Or if you guys know of any good shops in VA.

my 1988 does it too, i live with it and just add oil every so often. but if someone chimes in and says its just a seal or easy fix, ill do it asap. \\;
I can't stand leaks.....but this one is a little worse than a small one. I went to the harley store and looked through the book with a parts guy and what they had in the book looked nothing like my motor. In the book it showed a dust cover. On mine it looks like I have to take the whole primary off? Anyone got a pic of their drive side?
Yes, you'll need to pull the whole cover off, but it should be a simple job...ie. remove outer parts (shifter, linkage, footpeg, etc), disconnect clutch cable inside cover, remove cover, replace seal &\\; gasket, and then re-install everything.  \\; You can order the gasket kits on ebay or any other net site.

Yeah, now I have to figure out which seal it is. I think the guy at the harley shop gave me the wrong one. But thanks for the replies Im gonna get it done tomorrow hopefully.....to much damn rain here.
what year bike? \\; mine is a '95
 \\;
mine was leaking but so was primary cover gasket (bad)
 \\;
shifter seal..not so bad..but put new one in anyway..cheap &\\; easy
 \\;
looks like the wrong one at first..i argued with the parts guy too..LOL
 \\;
seems Harley did away with the metal part..all you get is the rubber now..
 \\;
old one was rubber built into a metal cap..
 \\;
it took a seal puller and yanked the old one out (rubber was falling apart)
 \\;
the new is only the rubber part..still leaks a little but nothing bad..
 \\;
funny how HD keeps making these little changes to replacement parts..(didn't you get the memo?)
 \\;
still wondering if i shouldn't have kept the metal piece and scraped the old rubber out?
 \\;
NOBODY TELLS YA NUTHIN!
