Default 88 1200 gear selector shaft leaking

I just recently bought this bike and had it out the other day for a good ride. The bike hasnt had that in a while. But in doing so I realized a little fluid dripping out of the gear shaft that runs into the primary case. I have not been able to get much help from my local harley shop and was just wondering if any of you knew which parts i need and any little tips. I am waiting for my manual to show up but damn its time to ride and i want this thing fixed. Or if you guys know of any good shops in VA.

mine seeps a little, but not enough to have to add oil between changes...&nbsp\\; it should be a simple lip seal that needs replaced.

I can't stand leaks.....but this one is a little worse than a small one. I went to the harley store and looked through the book with a parts guy and what they had in the book looked nothing like my motor. In the book it showed a dust cover. On mine it looks like I have to take the whole primary off? Anyone got a pic of their drive side?

Yes, you'll need to pull the whole cover off, but it should be a simple job...ie. remove outer parts (shifter, linkage, footpeg, etc), disconnect clutch cable inside cover, remove cover, replace seal &amp\\; gasket, and then re-install everything. &nbsp\\; You can order the gasket kits on ebay or any other net site.

what year bike?&nbsp\\; mine is a '95
&nbsp\\;
mine was leaking but so was primary cover gasket (bad)
&nbsp\\;
shifter seal..not so bad..but put new one in anyway..cheap &amp\\; easy
&nbsp\\;
looks like the wrong one at first..i argued with the parts guy too..LOL
&nbsp\\;
seems Harley did away with the metal part..all you get is the rubber now..
&nbsp\\;
old one was rubber built into a metal cap..
&nbsp\\;
it took a seal puller and yanked the old one out (rubber was falling apart)
&nbsp\\;
the new is only the rubber part..still leaks a little but nothing bad..
&nbsp\\;
funny how HD keeps making these little changes to replacement parts..(didn't you get the memo?)
&nbsp\\;
still wondering if i shouldn't have kept the metal piece and scraped the old rubber out?
&nbsp\\;
NOBODY TELLS YA NUTHIN!
&nbsp\\;
