Yes, they are, but they keep dirt out of your forks. I have them because I ride on gravel/mud road every day. After \\;only 1000 miles, I drained my fork oil and it was dirty.
 \\;If ya want to lower it, I have the stuff you need. I just raised my nightster in the front. To lower the back on yours ,I'd use the heavy progressives. They'll work good for two up.
I found these, kind of expensive, but they look nice and seem to be longer and you have the choice of 39 or 41mm, not sure what the sporty is.
