Default broke 3rd jackshaft

Ok, I was happy getting my bike fixed with a custom one piece jackshaft that has worked the last week, when today I was getting ready to go to work.... Jackshaft broke again. Mechanic recommends clutch basket change and going to a lower gear ratio. He is going to do this free, which is some good news.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Does anyone have a reduced gear ring gear and jackshaft? If so how has it worked for you? I have a stock 03 standard softtail, except the 1.4 KV starter that began this problem.
