2008 EGS total stock. \\; Rode last Sunday and put on 94 miles. \\; Didn't ride yesterday. \\; Was going out after work tonight. \\; Started the bike and it "choked" out on the first hit on the start switch. \\; Hit the starter again and it started. \\; Went into it's high rev (about 2000 rpms) but then quickly(more quickly than normal) \\;came down to idle speed(1000 rpms) but then coughed and choked and then died. \\; It did this for three more tries. \\;Same result each time.  \\;Would always start, run fast for an instant \\;but then slowed choked a few times and died.

I doubt this had anything to do with it but this morning before I went to work I pulled the rear cylinder plug to look for rich or lean condition. \\; Looked good and put the plug back in and re-connected the spark plug wire. \\; My battery tender was hooked up to the bike when I pulled the plug wire. \\; That wouldn't throw the ECM out of wack, would it? \\; Ignition and kill switch was off so that can't mean anything. \\; Just want to give all the details and anything different/unusual. \\; I just had the first service done at 900 miles and the bike now has 1350 miles. \\; Will be calling the dealer tomorrow to pick it up. \\;
 \\;
Any thoughts, anyone? \\; Thanks for any help.

I can't imagine that this could be it on a 2008, but my 2005 Ultra kind of did the same thing a few weeks ago. \\; Started and failed almost immediately. \\; Did this several times and I managed to get it started and it stayed running long enough to get it home. \\; Got off the bike, tried to start it but no luck. \\; The alt indicator was all over the place. \\; Turned out to be nothing more than a battery cable that had come loose. \\; It was connected, but slightly loose, enough to not give enough power to all the systems I guess. \\; Once I tightened the cables up all was fine.

That definitely sounds like the fuel filter defect if your bike was made before the first of the year. Same thing happened to me. The dealer cheerfully fixed it free under warranty \\;after I got it to them.

Remove gas cap, turn kill switch to run, turn on ignition switch while looking and listening into tank thru filler neck. Most of the time you can see and hear fuel spraying from the leaking fuel filter canister.
My dealer just confirmed this morning that I have the cracked canister problem. \\; You described the EXACT symptoms that I experienced so I presume you have the same problem. \\; You're luckier than I was. \\; I was on a busy freeway when the bike lost all power and then exhibited the symptoms you describe when I tried to restart it.

I guess the MOCO is waiting for a few folks to get killed in this exact situation before they 'fess up and issue a recall. Freakin' pathetic!
