Default Clutch cable replacement?

Well I want to go to Apes on my 07 Fat Boy. Id like to know what the real world difficulty would be on a scale from 1-10. Im a wrench professionally so i can handle technical terms and such, but the Harely manual for my bike just isnt.... detailed as the Lexus manuals we use at work. so anyone swaped their own clutch cable??

Default RE: Clutch cable replacement?

Easy job.&nbsp\\;You'll need the new cable, exhaust gaskets and a tranny side cover gasket. Collapse cable adjuster at the downtubes completely so the lever is free. Take off the snap ring holding the clevis pin in and remove the pin.&nbsp\\;Unhook the cable from the lever. If you aren't ready for a tranny fluid change then you can put your scoot's wheels up on 2x4's or 2x6's and lean it way over to the left on the jiffy stand.&nbsp\\;This is so all the tranny fluid goes to the left and you won't lose but a drop when you pull the tranny side cover. You will need to drop the exhaust to get the tranny side cover off. Take off the cover and remove the large snap ring holding the ball and ramp assembly. Prior to removing, note where the opening in the snap ring is. Take out the assembly (being careful not to lose the 3 balls) and unhook the clutch cable from it. Unscrew the clutch cable from the cover.&nbsp\\;Prior to installing new cable I always lube it. I also do a complete clutch adjustment in the primary as well.

Thanks dawg! I had heard about the little majic balss that like to scatter.&nbsp\\; Nice to know that it isnt that hard.

BTW, how did you install the new gaskets and did you need a special service tool to do it? What about removing them?

What kind of service tool does a Lexus need for a gasket?? I'm just jerking your chain, but I have never heard that question before.

The old gasket should come right off and do not glue the new one on. You will live to regret it if you do.
