My wife bought me a new XL1200C Sportster last week and got me some chrome covers and emblems to dress her up. I got all of them on except the derby cover, I used a torque screwdriver like I was supposed to and got four of the screws to break loose but the other two are really on there and I can't get them loose and of course they are starting to round from my trying to get them off, so I finally gave up. Does anybody have any suggestions because I know that eventually they need to come off to check the fluid under the cover, or should I let the dealer deal with this and if so is this a big deal due the screws starting to strip???? Thanks for any advice.
I had the same problem with I first pulled mine off. They make them up way too much at the factory. I just kept working slowly and they eventually came loose. Only think I can suggest is to shoot a bunch of WD40 around the bolts and keep trying. Make sure your torx is exactly the right size. There are several that almost fit but there is only one that is exact.
Make sure the torx fits right and gently tap in on the wrench while applying loosening pressure, sometimes that vibration acts like an impact wrench and will work (don't get too violent while doing this)

Man I had the same problem on a bike I was doing some work on last weekend. I got 3 out and then I had fun getting the last 2 out. The owner orginally tried to do it with a phillips screw driver.. .What I did was I heated a allen wrench and while it was hot stuck it in the bolt heat and that got one out.. the other I had to use a die grinder with a small I mean small grinding disc. I used a dremel actualy.. I slotted it and used the biggest flat head I had.. worked great!!! The owner supplied me with new chrome bolts and they ran him like 24.99...
