Mothers mag and aluminium polish will do it but it takes a lot of rubbing. Leaves it clean with no scratches

Thanks! I'll look it up and try to find some. And, yes I too will only make this mistake once. Rick

Get the pipes good and hot and bursh on a little over cleaner, the shoe marks will come right off.

I second the Easy Off (oven cleaner). Works like a charm. Warm up the pipes a bit, spray the stuff on, let sit for a minute or two, and wipe off! May require a few attempts though to get it all off (depending on how much gunk to clean off).

I AGREE WITH THE OVEN CLEANER. I HAD MARKS FROM MY BOOT AND MELTED RAINGEAR. EASYOFF WORKED GOOD. ANOTHER TIP IF YOU DO GET THESE MARKS GET THEM OFF AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF WAITING OVER A WEEK ON THE RAINSUIT TOOK ALOT MORE WORK AFTER IT "CURED" ON THERE. GOODLUCK.

I had a resistant one that I eventually used a straight razor blade to gently lift it off!! Scary, but worked well.

I've used goo gone on my pipes before to remove melted shoe. Worked good. The oven cleaner idea sounds good too, wish I would have thought of that one at the time.

There is a cleane called ROAD RUB which will take it right off. Do a search on it and you will find the website.

Believe it or not, use the edge of a nickel to scrape it off. It will not scratch your pipes, anything else metallic runs the risk of scratches. A nickle then some Mothers and elbow grease will do the trick

Just wanted to thank everyone for the responces. Thank you! My wife suggested I try one of those Mr Clean Magic Erasers that she uses around the house on almost everything. So I gave it a shot. Worked great! No smears, no scratching the chrome and no dull chrome afterwards. Just a little elbow grease and a clean dry towel. Took less than 10 min and I can't even tell it was there now. Rick

Tried the "Magic Eraser", and it worked well for me also. I'll see how it looks after the pipes get good and hot when I ride, but right now they look great.

Magic Eraser worked well for me. It is gentle on the finish yet cleans it.

I put some small scratches on my new V&H BigShots, and then tried to smooth them out with the Heavy Metal Medium Abrasive Polish. Apparently too abrasive, cuz now I've got a bigger scratched spot on my pipes. I've since got some Flitz Polish, that works well, but there's still an imperfection there that you can see when the light's just right. If anyone has any ideas for me, I'm all ears... Cheers

Was just out in the garage with the Flitz polish on a soft buffing disc in the Dremel - I got the scratches out! There's an area about the size of a golf ball that has a mild brownish-yellow color to it though. Is it possible that I buffed off the chrome a little? I challenged a neighbor walking by to find the imperfection, and he couldn't. So I'm a lot happier now than I have been over the last 3 weeks... Now to put these forward controls on...

I had the same thing happen with my daughter's shoe and the pipe just above the rear floorboard ... I was told by a mechanic at the HD dealer to "get the pipes good and hot and use a non-stick cooking spray like Pam" ... I did it, and sure enough, the cooked shoe came right off ... I was left with a clean, buttery smelling pipe - there was a lot of shoe on it too, several inches worth and a few MM's thick

Gees.....you guys like to make hard work! A copper coin will scratch almost anything off the pipes without causing damage. Believe it or not for tar spots or rubber burns, scratch away with a copper coin with confidence...it wont cause any damage SCARY BUT TRUE!

The nickle idea sounds like it would work good. for me it was hot pipes and fine steelwool, no scratches and shiny pipes. with three kids it happens more than you can imagine!

Damn, that oven cleaner worked great, although it was coupled with a lot of freakin' elbow grease. Knew I'd find the answer on this forum. Thanks to all.

Yes you removed the chrome and now you are seeing the nickel layer, that's the yellowish tent. Only options are to live with it, replace it, or re-chrome it. quote:

ORIGINAL: cowboy Harry Acetone. Acetone works well and is something that some folks already have around the tool shed. Easy Off, will do the trick most of the time. I've also got a can of PVC pipe cleaner, that will melt the balls off a charging rino at 500 yards for those nasty spots the wife keeps makin on my header (c:. I would suggest doing every thing possible to keep these chemicals off the paint and powder coat. It will sure dull it up.. SB
