Default 79 sportster

Hey, I'm thinking about picking up a 79 sporty. I know they have an oddball exhaust, is there anything else I should be concerned about.

I think there is more than just the exhaust, but if it's in good shape, go for it.

Biggest thing with the 79, many parts from other years wont fit it if you like used parts.

They arent exactly hard to find, they just tend to cost more..

Are you looking for something stock or modified? Also does local matter or not? Im on several forums with Ironheads for sale... all pretty much 3800 or less.

looking for something mostly stock, to learn with, fix up a bit, have some fun wrenching
will probably find something local, I'd rather check it out before buying, been considering a triumph too
the hunt is half the fun, but thanks anyways

hahaha, oh yeah! The ironhead is just the ticket if ya wanna learn how to either turn a wrench or sell a basket case...

Yer absolutely correct though, keep a keen eye out for an older ironhead that doesnt look quite right.. theres still a few 750's hanging around out there that are worth thier weight in gold..

I love Ironheads but I would go with a different year. '79 has some parts issues. I would stay between 1972 and 1977. Those are the best years in my opinion.
