I'm not happy with the tuners in Salt Lake. It appears they just use MOCO downloads and charge $$$ for their effort. Perhaps their trying to get me to switch from SERT to PCIII.
I'm traveling in 10 days. Can anyone recommend a Race Tuner that understands and can properly adjust my SERT?
The major cities I'll be near are:
Reno, NV
Redding, CA
Grants Pass, OR
San Francisco, CA
Los Angeles, CA
San Diego, CA
Flagstaff, AZ
I recomend Gary at World Thunder Empire. I just had my bike tuned by him this week and I'm very happy with his work. I ride my bike 161 miles a day to and from work, the rideability difference is amazing. I have not been able to do an open road mpg check yet but the in and out of traffic figure is 44mpg. Links to the dyno sheet from my bike and Gary's site are below.
I will be having the tech at Fullsac do mine next month he has a good understanding of the SERT, he is located in Lake Havasu, they do have a wegsite and he will talk to you on the phone to help with any problems
I got my Harley back from the tuner and am still disappointed. This time it was tuned by one of the Race Tuners that that tunes last years # 7 Top Fuel in point standings and a team member of this years current #1; AHRDRA All Harley Drag Race Association.
He told me that with my setup I would need to face fact that this is the best that can be done. 69.91 Max HP and 75.94 Max Torque. He said every bike was different and just because another with a similar setup got better readings and MPG doesnât mean mine can. I have a stock 05 Ultra, K&N AC and T-Rex 3â straight True Duals.
He told me all dynos were different and that if I wanted to compare to someone elseâs I need to run on their dyno. He also said the SERT was far superior to the Power Commander for race tuning. I believe he said he got over 160HP using a SERT on a V-Rod.
I donât have a real problem with the performance although is seems a little flat from 70 up. But the gas mileage is unsatisfactory. So much so that Iâm considering going back to the stock exhaust, AC and ECM where I was routinely getting 45 MPG. I could care less about the sound. I went with the T-Rex because I liked the look.
Iâm going to talk to a couple of tuners in California. But my real concern is that if someone who tunes some of the fastest racers tuned mine to the best of his ability. Can I reasonably expect anyone else to improve it? Or should I be looking at a different setup to get back the 40+ MPG?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic but your telling me there were at least 6 tuners better than this guy last year, and at the same time asking if you can expect better results from someone else. Seems to me that this statement makes it clear that it is possible. Bottom line is you are not going to find a guarantee with any tuner that I'm aware of, until they get it on their dyno they do not know if they can do better. If I were in your position I would let the same guy try to improve your tune as many times as he was willing to do it at no cost to you. As soon as he wanted me to reach in my back pocket I'd do it, but it would be at another tuners shop.
Forgot to mention, I rode with some fellow forum members today. Had a chance to ride at steady speed for good distance, about 320 miles. I got 50.6 miles per gallon.
I'm concerned about getting scheduled into a shop midway through my trip because I'm not sure when I'd get there. But I think I need to do just that. I'll call Gary and Bill sometime this week and discuss my situation with them. Obviously I'm frustrated and that's influencing my thoughts. As you know, there are more factors than just tuning in drag racing. This year he's #1 in the standings so far. My point was only to say that this guy should be knowlegable.
I've heard that some tuners tend to tune on the rich side. Although I've discussed this with my tuner he discounted that. He supposedly tuned mine for optimum MPG between 55 and 75 where I cruise. He did improve the original from 32 to 35 MPG and I have both MT6 maps on CD. But that's still over 20% less than I was getting stock.
You're correct in that I'm screwed up in thinking. I agree the only way I can be assured of anything is to get a second opinion on their dyno.

I just booked an appointment with Ed at WTE. Gary was not in but will do the SERT next Thursday (5/11) on my was through. I'm looking for a motel nearby and should get in late Wednesday afternoon. PM me and I'll buy dinner and/or some suds for the recommendation.
I looked at you dyno and his others and after speaking with Ed feel that they are a good choice.
Thanks,
Bob
