Default Cruise control for Softtail?

I'm renting a couple of bikes tomorrow.
One bike is a Heritage Classic and the other is a Road King.
I'm actually in love with the Deluxe but they didn't have one
so the Heritage was the alternative.

I have a back problem so I wanted to compare the rides before
diving-in and maybe regreting either decission. Demo rides are too short.
(Softtail suspention vs. vibration from lobing on the touring bikes at slow sppeds and stops)

One of the draws of the touring models is the cruise control.

I saw a conversion kit the other day to put the Road King
cruise control on the softtials.

Has anyone done this?

Many people have gone the cheap route and bought a device that fits over the thumb screw. I think it costs about $10. I don't know what its called, but I remember a thread a few months back and several members have them.

It's basically a lever and allows you to lock the throttle with a flip of your thumb. It's not cruise, but if you are just looking to take your hand off occasionally it works.

Oh, on the deluxe vs. heritage... the deluxe is lowered so it bottoms out a little easier. Also with your long inseam... 32" i think you mentioned, you will definately want to get highway pegs. Its not that its uncomfortable, just that you will want to have more movement than you will get without them.

While in Daytona this past March I picked up a Kuryakyn catalog which had an electrico-magnetic cruise assist listed. This product is new and is to be released Summer 06, WOW I can't wait I ride a 2000 Fatboy and have also ridden a Ultra which had the factory cruise on it. Yes I do miss it and looking forward to purchasing this when released.

The part number is 6280 and is priced at $159.99, it claims in the brief description as a electro magnetic cruise ASSIST you just push the button and its set touch the brakes or push the button to release. SOUNDS GREAT can't wait to get one, its on page 30 of there catalog.

That Kuryakyn device is just for holding throttle though. Same as that $10 lever.
It doesn't maintain speed.

I remember seeing the ad for the cruise you are talking about. You have to add the throttle assembly, servo or something from H-D in addition to the kit. Total cost seems like it was around $750.00 give or take. But it would be a real honest to goodness speed control.

This may be the one you are talking about. I'm thinking long and hard about this. My service tech says there's no reason why a softail can't have cruise control. It's just a money issue. Man, would it be a nice addition to the Fat Boy.

Yep that's that one I'm talking about. a little pricy but would be really nice.

Ended up buying the Softail Deluxe today.
Put the Kuryakyn Premium Iso Grips on it which include throttle boss.
It's a start .

Here's my new baby [sm=yeahsmile.gif]

Sounds like a great alternative to the $750 one.
Looks like I need to get a catalog!
