Default Tire Choice?

I'm fixin' to spring for a couple new skins. I usually run Dunlop 491 Touring Elite types. Always get pretty good mileage; 10k rear, 20k front. I ain't no hot rodder any longer, so the traction is fine. I'm mostly after mileage. Anybody got any other preferences?

Pococj,

I've always run Dunlops on my bikes. Best tire on the market for tourers in IMHO.

I've always heard Dunlops were the way to go as well.

Well, I'm on my 9th rear tire I get the most miles out of the Dunlop D402. I average about 14,000 on the rears. The size of my rear is MU85. The front I get about 45,000 miles. The most I got out of a rear tire was 17,??? miles.

Prefer to run Avon Venoms, good wear, wet traction is good and theres no nibble in the freeway grooves.

A guy at USA custom cycle's, where I buy a few part's said he would put a metzler tire on, I think that's the way you spell it(like that's stopped me before), anyway he say's the tire is harder in the middle and has greater traction on the side's and it will last longer than the Dunlop's, I guess it's just another choice.

Strange all the conflicting info out there. Most guys around here who run Metzler like 'em for the traction, but say they don't last as long. And aside from a Cheng Shin I once ran when the coin was light, Avon has given me the worst mileage on the rear, and similar to Dunlop 491 on the front.

I've stayed with the Dunlops. Never had any problems with them, got 11,000 out of the original on my Heritage, and have around 8,000 on the replacement. I'll probably buy front and rear tires shortly.
