Can anyone out there tell me if the HD Security System is worth having put on a new bike? Are they any good? How do they work - does it disable ignition, sound the horn, or make the bike invisible except to the owner?

Friend of mine had it stock on his 04 Dyna. He never uses it. Not sure of all the details but I just got a bigger bike (05 Fatboy) and the dealer even said spend the coin on something else. Guess its a bit of a pain to reset if you have to.

Came on mine stock. I use it every day. You have a key fob, press and hold once, iginition disabled. Press and hold twice, ignition enabled. Doesn't blast a horn or call the police, just doesn't let the bike start. If you lose the fob, there is a combination that you can set into the bike that will disable it. You do this through the turn signal switches.
There are other HD aftermarket systems that will page you, blast horns, etc., I only know the little bit that I have read on this forum about them.
It's great! It elevates the bike to 20' above the ground where it levitates while a spotlight from above illuminates it until you get back. Then one whistle from you and it starts itsel and comes back to the ground. Really neat looking bar trick! (BTW, not all my true stories are true.)
Truth...it's good. It disables the bike and saves you money on your insurance. Comes with a key Fob. Available additions include siren and a pager that will beep on your fob.
More truth...If a pro wants your bike, it's gone pretty much regardless what. Is it worth the coin? I don't know. My dealer has the basic pre-installed on all the bikes they order. Reason,,insurance and prob. profit. I added the siren, but I'm not sure why. I don't use it around town, prob. should and prob. will if at a Motel or such.
I love it- use it every time I walk away from my bike! Mine's got the siren and was installed before I bought it. You can set the sensitivity to go off if you sneeze or if you shake it. Mine gives a warning chirp if someone touches it. Also, if someone very carefully takes the seat off and disconnects the battery, it will go off and there is NO WAY to shut it w/out the code! [sm=icon_rtfm.gif]I speak from experience-trust me, I just shut the garage door and left the building, it did stop after about 15 min. or so. Seems theres an internal battery in the siren that you can't disconnect. It's a nice system if your gonna stay around the bike, but if you plan on going to sturgis and leave your bike for hours I suggest 2 disc locks so they can't roll it away! [sm=gears.gif]
I have the security with the add on siren, I set mine every time I go in a store or leave it alone. I agree if some one wants your bike they will get it. bu I thought it might help keep people from touching or trying to sit on her while your are away. it is an annoying screech when she goes off. I have forgot I set it & climb aboard to have her start screeeeming & you cant get your key fob out of your pocket quick enough.
P.S. it does disable the ignition.

Interesting that people don't use it...yet they use the ones on their cars...it's no hassel to push the FOB button.

Two reasons, Mac. One, I keep my bike key on a ring with just the car key and fob.
Second and more to the point, I picked up my fobs after the bike was delivered. Somehow (I think my wife or the car wash) the little bag with them in it has disappeared. I kept looking and looking, afraid of what they cost to replace. No luck. Finally fessed up at the dealership today and found out that it's a standard replacement item. Doesn't have to match your key and is $35. I was afraid that I was looking at $200, so I ordered one...should be here next week some time. Art
