I just heard that in 2010 is the projected date when all HD's will be water cooled and fuel injected. I guess that my Dyna will become a collectors item then.

You know Mac I have heard that the carb will be weeded out in a couple of year's,this coming from the dealer, also he said there would alway's be a air cooled engine from Harley. Emissions are chocking[:'(] us to death.

My dealer said the same thing about the carbs...personally it seems pretty reasonable, as you can tune them more accurately, and as technology continues, I believe it will be a better product. I also think they will probably all be water cooled, I just wonder if it will be by 2010...personally, I don't understand why they don't have more water cooled engines...is it the drag on the motor?
Actually you can get more long term HP from a water cooled engine than an air cooled. Easier to remove the heat in all kinds of weather and riding styles with a properly designed water motor.
Reason HD ain't going all out at once on water cooled motors is ol' farts like me wouldn't have one if they were giving 'em away for a buck-two-ninety-eight. No matter what they do, the engine won't look the same, and won't sound the same. So I guess we'll go through a weening process.
Don't get me wrong, I understand the long term need to reduce pollution, and understand that muttersickles are a small part of the problem. So the problem will be addressed. Doesn't mean I gotta like the looks and sound of the new bikes, though!

Look at it this way. Our bikes will be worth more becouse nobody will want a water cooled harley. But then again we wont want to sell ours. It will be interesting if harley can keep the sound and make it look good. I guess we can still build customs if not.
You haven't seen the EPA proposals on custom bikes, have you? What they have up now is pretty ridiculous. Small manufacturers will be allowed to build a certain number without meeting the strict pollution limits. A custom shop will be allowed to build customs that don't meet the strict regs, but they can only be ridden to shows, parades, etc. An individual will be allowed to build one (1, that's right, 1!) custom in his lifetime using an older engine design that doesn't meet the new strict regs.
If this gets adopted, the only way I see arounf it will be to use an older frame with VIN, and build from it. Or using even older frames that have no VIN, and using the cases from an old engine with the original engine serial number and building up from that.
Given the numbers of custom bikes built by individuals, the proposed regulation is utterly ridiculous.
Gotta love the gooberment!

Looks like we should be stocking up with current models so we won't have to worry about buying the '10s. If anyone wants to help me buy my Road King to prepare for the future changes just PM me and I'll give you my info. [sm=exactly.gif]
