I know most of you already know this, but I had to say it anyway. I only put SYN 3 in my engine and not in my primary or trans. I don't think that one oil fits all is is smart to begin with and to have Harley originally market SYN 3 for use in all three holes is stupid on their part as well. Must be the book smart, overpaid, college kids that know nothing about oil making the decisions at HD. (Nothing wrong with College) don't get me wrong here. I have been doing maintenance on my bikes since 1986 and 1996 on Harleys with my 883 and now with my Springer Classic. I don't trust any of the dealers that I have known to work on my bike. People don't seem to take care of your stuff like you would take care of it. Well anyway I put SYN 3 in my engine and ran it about 2000 miles. With SYN 3 the engine was very loud and seemed to burn or disapear over a short time but there was no oil burning out my exaust or on my spark plugs. It also seemed to turn very dark quicker than the HD 360 that I had been using. I switched back to HD 360 at my 5,000 mile service and have noticed a quieter engine and the oil still looks good on the dip stick. I know that alot of you swear by Synthetic oil, but if the rest of the Synthetics are anything like SYN 3 then you can keep them and I'll stick to the lower priced, engine quieting, performance enhancing and non disapearing Dino oil that is in my bike right now. Peace.

Mobile 1 V-Twin in engine
Formula+ in primary
Mobile 1 Syn 75W90 in trans
I agree that the Syn 3 is crap. But, I'm in a hot climate and could not risk a dino oil.
I tried Formula+ in the primary and didn't notice any improvement over Mobil 1 V-twin. I've switched back to Mobil 1 V-twin in the primary. Mainly, just to eliminate having to buy a different lubricant for the primary.
So everyone is telling me that the other Synthetics are that much different than SYN 3 is? What makes you feel that the Synthetic you are using is better. Is it the way your engine sounds, oil color, does it run cooler, or make you feel that it is extra insurance for you mechanical components? I used dino HD360 and whatever the predecessor was I think it was HD240 in my sportster from the time I bought it to the time I sold it and never had any engine problems what so ever. I ran in some hot tempatures and in long processions like Rolling Thunder and never had my engine overheat or knock. So why should I use Synthetic other than that is what the manufacturers tell me I should use? Just curious here. I am not tryin g to start an oil war or anything. I would like to here from you the user not the manufacturer why you think the Synthetic you use is better minus the pie charts, waveforms, and snake oil.

I switched from Syn3 the dealer put in the bike to Mobil 1 V-twin and the bike was noticeably quieter. That's enough science for me to stay with the Mobil 1.
