Default Z-Bars Breaking...??

I've read a few posts about z-bars breaking at the joints....how likely is this to happen? Would this just happen if you buy cheap z-bars? I love the look of them, and really want to get a pair...but If I have to worry about them busting on me, I might just end up going for a set of apes instead. Thanx for the help guys.

Marc

Default RE: Z-Bars Breaking...??

Back in the 70's I had a pair of Z-bars on my Triumph Had them on for several years and one day I went to stand the bike up off the kickstand and one arm snapped off at the weld. Luckily I wasn't riding at the time. But to be fair, when I looked inside the tube of the broke off arm, it was full of rust. Water had some how gotten into the tube and over the years slowly rusted it out. May never had broken without the rusting of the weld. I must admit though, it didn't change my mind, since I went right to the local chopper shop and bought another pair. I just liked the way they looked on the Triumph I had considered getting them on my Dyna Custom, but the bike is much wider profile and thought they would look too narrow on it. Also thought a wider bar would make it easier to handle The Z-bars on my Triumph were pretty narrow.

I also ran Z bars back in the very early 70's, but on a BSA. Never had any problems with them breaking. Bent them a few times in crashes and just straightened them out best I could.

I had them on a chopped Triumph in the seventies, no problem, but changed to pullbacks after a while for comfort.
I agree with the post above: they might look too narrow on a HD.
